The artwork hangs on the wall, but the art happens in your head.

I was thrilled to have Jeanné McCartin quote me in today’s Seacoast Online:

“I am pretty sure that art happens in people’s minds. It’s an idea or event or feeling or some other mental or emotional thing.

“An artist has some feelings, and then makes some marks on a piece of paper, then someone else comes along and looks at those marks and then they have some feelings. And it’s the feelings that are art. Not the paper or the marks. A lot of people confuse artwork with art. The artwork hangs on the wall, but the art happens in your head.”
